You may hear dancers say that they have reached a particular level in their chosen form of dancing, perhaps bronze, gold, statuette level or whatever.Salsa Locura provides access to the full range of dance examinations offered by the UKA (United Kingdom Alliance of Professional Teachers of Dancing and Kindred Arts) and yes, that does include Salsa! There are two ways of doing the exams. For large numbers, an examiner will visit and watch each student performing a short routine. For smaller numbers, Salsa Locura will video the performance, transfer it to DVD and submit it to the examiner by post. The examiner will not only grade the performance but will also offer constructive comments on strengths and areas for improvement, giving us a chance to say, “I told you so!”Seriously, if you don’t want to do the exams (and many people don’t) then that’s absolutely fine, but we feel that independent and constructive criticism from a professional dance examiner can only help you to progress, while the medal system offers a way of measuring that progress. There is a charge for taking exams, which varies depending on level.
We are happy to arrange exams for salseros who don’t normally dance with us, but expect to pay a little more than our regulars to help cover our costs.
