About Us

Who we are

Salsa Locura is run by UKA (United Kingdom Alliance of Professional Teachers of Dancing and Kindred Arts) qualified instructor Sandy Wilks, with a little help from husband, Jeff, mainly on the music side.  Sandy was a keen Ballroom and Latin dancer before taking up Salsa and brings her experience of those types of dancing into her classes.  She qualified as an instructor while working with Salsa Siempre in Dorset, but has branched out on her own since moving to Cheshire in 2005.

Where we are

We are based in Ellesmere Port, near Chester and teach in the surrounding area on behalf of organisations such as Adult Education and Healthy Living Centres.  We believe that there is always more to learn so as well as teaching classes, you will also find us attending classes and events in the area.

What we teach

For those in the know, we teach New York (Cross Body) Salsa On 1, but we’re not proud and classes may include a little bit of Cuban Salsa, Merengue, Cha Cha Cha and Bachata.  The focus is, of course, on Salsa.

How we teach

Have you ever watched Strictly Come Dancing or Strictly Dance Fever and heard the judges panning the contestants for not getting the basics right?  We believe that if you are going to look good and progress quickly then it’s important to get the basics right.  Our courses are therefore aimed at teaching students to dance basic Salsa, well.  This suits most of our students, but we occasionally find that particularly talented students or ones with previous dance experience can find it a little slow.  We will therefore show you how to “style up” some of the moves, so that each student can learn and progress at a level that suits them.  Most of all, we believe that dancing is about having fun and every class is taught with that in mind.
